Some Greek dude asked the oracle of Delphi who was wisest. The answer was Socrates, "None are wiser than Socrates," to be more precise. Socrates did not regard himself as wise and considered the oracle's answer to be a riddle. Finally, he concluded that if he had any wisdom, it lay in the fact that, "That which I do not know, I do not pretend to know." Obviously he didn't know much and certainly knew less than he didn't know. But at least he knew the limits of his own knowledge.
